Rowan’s Law Day

Concussion Awareness

On October 2nd, students and Staff at St. Mary will be learning about Rowan and Rowan’s Law. We want to raise greater awareness about concussions by sharing Rowan’s Stringer’s story.  Rowan died in 2013 from experiencing a series of concussions while playing Rugby.  She didn’t know that her brain needed to heal and this eventually caused her death. While learning about how to play safely and recognize signs/symptoms of a concussion, students and staff will be invited to wear purple that day (Rowan’s favourite colour).

By increasing concussion awareness and knowledge, we can change Ontario’s culture around sports, physical activity and injury. Rowan’s Law will make it easier for those who experience concussions to SPEAK UP, get the help they need, and take the time necessary for recovery, with the support of everyone around them.
