National Custodial Workers’ Recognition Day

October 2 is National Custodial Workers’ Recognition Day, a day in which we recognize and show appreciation to our custodians, assistant custodians and maintenance staff who work tirelessly each day to ensure the smooth operation of our schools and office buildings.

These hard-working men and women at St. Mary not only keep our school clean, disinfected, safe and well-maintained, but they enrich our school with their dedication, enthusiasm and humour.

In their pastoral letter for Catholic Education, Renewing the Promise, the Catholic Bishops of Ontario described the important role of support staff in helping our Catholic schools to realize their mission. “Each day you offer loving service to those who depend on you. You are the stewards of our physical space and facilities; without your diligence, hard work and attention to detail, our offices and classrooms would be less welcoming. Each of you brings unique expertise, skill and talents that contribute to the creation of learning communities that are places of warmth and welcome.”

On National Custodial Workers’ Recognition Day, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to our dedicated custodians:  Mr. Simone, Mr. Merante, Mr. Newell, Mr. Graham and Ms. Parmar for their tremendous service and goodness.
