We Celebrate Black Heritage Month

We are celebrating Black Excellence, resilience, innovation, and determination to work towards a more inclusive and diverse Canada. Students will be listening to inspirational stories, biographies and watching videos of Black figures past and present who continue to make Canada the culturally diverse, compassionate, and prosperous nation it is today. Our hope is that as a school community we have the opportunity to listen, reflect and share our thoughts and experiences with one another.

On Tuesday, February 8th, 2022, D.O. Gibson will host the first annual Black Canadian 365 conference for students across Canada.

Entitled “Change the World,” the event will cover Viola Desmond, the Coloured Hockey League and Black contributions to hockey, and black musical contributions from Oscar Peterson to Maestro Fresh Wes to Drake.  In his trademark style, Gibson will speak and rap throughout the performance.  The event will take place virtually with students tuning in from their classrooms from across the country.  Hope you’ll ask your children about this on Wednesday evening.
